There are four factors which go to determine the development of curriculum. They are the students, teachers, the community and the subject matter. It is, therefore, necessary that all these four elements are actively associated with the process of curriculum development. The mental level of the learners has to be taken into view while framing and developing the curriculum. Equally important is the background of the teachers, both cultural and mental.
The parents of the students coming to schools need to be associated with the process of curriculum development for better coordination of the educational programme.
Probably the most vital and critical work is of the selection of the subject matter. For this work the services of various specialists and experts need to be commissioned. But it should not be left totally with the experts. Those who have to translate the curriculum contents into action need to be associated. |
