Medical and Veterninary Arthropod Disease Ecology is based on the findings of the author for the award of Ph.D. degree from the University of Kumaun. It is the first comprehensive and original piece of work by the author on the ecology of haematophagous arthropods and their hosts including wildlife. This research work has opened new avenues for further researchers on altitudinal ecological studies and in particular high altitude hosts and their parasites of medical and veterinary importance.
The author has recorded very precise and comprehensive observations in depicting the ecology, distribution diagonosis and hostology of the faunistic composition of ticks, fleas, lice and bugs of the State of Jammu and Kashmir including Ladakh. The author has made extensive collection of the material recorded, intensive observations on them, cataloguing a reference compendium of all the haematophagous arthropods of the Himalayan regions of India, the investigations of the author on the disease relationship of these parasities deserve special credit. The substantial control measures, for the vectors tried by the author in the 'Climatic complex' of Jammu and Kashmir, contribute a first attempt on the subject. |
