The absolute backwardness of Jammu region is well marked and judged from its position in comparison to other parts of India. However, it is beyond any doubt that even in this backward region the regional disparities are quite pronounced. Consequently, except for a few developed pockets extreme backwardness prevails in most of the areal units. Some of the regions are developing at the cost of other.
The specific objectives of the present work therefore are, to examine the geographical personality, socio-cultural milieu, availability of natural endowment and resource potentials and to identify the existing spatial pattern of variations in the levels of development in various areal units of Jammu division.
Based on research and extensive field work and documented with original maps, the book is written in clear and lucid style. It is hoped that the book will be of immense help to the teachers, researchers, students, social workers, administrators and planners. It will also encourage the readers to learn more and research further about various other aspects. |
