This is the story of one of the first attempts to climb that great Himalayan peak, Kangchenjunga. Known to local people as 'The Five Treasures of Snow', Kangchenjunga, which rises to 28,208 ft., is the third highest mountain in the world.
Seen from afar it seems to float serenely above the clouds. But to reach the summit means a death-defying battle against the elements, biting cold winds, barrages of snow and, worst of all, terrifying avalanches that sweep constantly across entire faces of the mountain.
