The book contains papers contributed in a national seminar on Social development: Role of science and technology, by Physical/Natural scientists, social scientists, social planners and social activists. The seminar was organised by Aadhar, a NGO and the Indian social science association. Social development is the ultimate goal of Indian society and science and technology are the tools. But science may have its own obje3ctives, and the technology may be so manipulated by the powers that be, that the goals of social development may be widely displaced.
