Availability of adequate socio-economic infrastructure is a fundamental ingredient shaping the pace and direction of economic development of an economy. This is more so in the case of the economy of the hilly and far-flung regions like Himachal Pradesh where the geo-climatic conditions and physical isolation pose serious challenges to the pace of economic development.
Inadequate infrastructural facilities have remained a major constraint in the development of Himachal Pradesh. Several regions within the state remained backward as they lacked adequate infrastructural facilities. Although a substantial part of the plan expenditure was diverted towards the development of economic and social infrastructural facilities, yet the level attained so far is far below the requirements of this hill state. It is in this background that the present study has been set to analyse the levels of economic and infrastructure development and to establish relationship between the two at the disaggregative district level.
The book should prove useful to planners, administrators, economists, sociologists, researchers, students and those interested in the development of Himachal Pradesh. |
