The knowledge bank of Ayurveda is a product of many centuries of actual research and experience. It was the basis of the health care system in India until the early years of twentieth century with the advent of modern system of medicine, developed in USA and Europe, the use of Ayurveda went in to recess. But with due course of time excessive use of antibiotics, ever-increasing cost of treatments, residuary effect of strong medicines and side complications have allocated the attention of health researchers toward traditional herbal medicines and prospection of plants for new drugs. It has been called upon at number of times by experts that traditional knowledge of Ayurveda may prove effective against disease conditions that are now well defines. Ayurveda is expected to be the fountain for a variety of uses in future. For welfare of human beings the intelletual property manifested in Ayurveda and other traditional medicinal systems in vogue in India needs to be protected.
Present book is a compilation of 50 common plants which have long been in use in the traditional system of medicine. each chapter contains description of plant, its Botanical affiliation, vernacular/ regional names, distribution and habitat plant’s description, history and uses, Ayurvedic formulation of the plant and plant species index and Ayurvedic formulation index. It is hoped that this book will help in the wider dissemination of knowledge based on Indian traditional system of medicine, including Ayurveda.
