The m,ain theme of Von Kremer is the influence of Judaism, Christianity, Parseeism and Manichacism on Islam. It also deals with the origin and growth of Islamic sects and the social life of the early as well as the later Muslims. Thus the book traces the changes that the Arab society underwent under the influence of Persian and Byzantinian luxury and licence and the consequent changes in the character of the Islamic State, leading to the anti Arab movements like the Shuubiyyah that paved the way for the destruction of the Arab rule.
