DESCRIPTION
The work attempts to trace folkloric motifs in different versions of six Vedic tales. It presents the versions of each tale and then traces the motifs contained therein, identifying new motifs as well. It emphasises the importance of the motifs in terms of the plot and as key to tracing common elements in tales of various times and geographic areas. It shows the changes the tales have undergone over time. It deals with the protagonists and other characters of the tales, the many episodes in each, the nature of the tale, aspects of nature each describes, and the importance of the tales from the mythological, historical, sociological, moral and religious viewpoints.
