DESCRIPTION
The Smrtis are the compedia systematically epitomising the material contained in the Grhya and Dharma-sutras. The Manusmrti stands at the top of the Smrti literature. It is regarded as the chief on Hindu jurisprudence. Several commentaries have been written on Manusmrti to make it more understandable. Medhatithi is a famous commen-tators and stands supreme among the Indian commentators. His voluminous commentary is known as Manubhasya. The Bhasya word indicates that it is not a gloss which paraphrases every word of the text. Its aim is to show the general sense of Manu's dicta, to elucidate all really difficult passages and to settle all doubtful points by a full discussion of the various possible interpretations.
