Despite a surge of interest in gender issues, the question of women migration has not seen a systematic study. Every year, thousand of women from West Bengal particularly from Kuch Bihar region migrate to many cities of North India including the Jaipur. The nature and magnitude of flow of population particularly of women population has raised so many demographic imbalances and created social and cultural problems in the city of destination.
This book is structured to take a holistic view of the issue, looking at the structure and problems of adjustment of the Bengali migrant women. The book visualises the problems of processes of migration and the pattern and trends. It also spells out the emphasis to be given to certain aspects of women migration in the light of the process of liberalization and globalization taking place in the country. |
